Wild Riders and Treekin allowed a victory but it was in doubt with Durthu having less than 10% HP at the end. The first battle vs Beastmen was the most difficult battle of the mini-campaign because my agent was only able to separate 2 of the Beastmen armies and my 2nd army only had 14 units. I used wartarget to get my vassal Fyr Darric to capture Threllock since it was in province they controlled. I had gotten an agent that turn or a bit before that as well and Durthu with support of 2nd Lord went to fight the Beastmen. Sometime around turn 30 another AI DoW and captured Threllock just after the 4 Beastmen armies appeared. I had recruited 2nd Lord again and had him colonize Threllock then Tal Jun while Durthu fought a couple of Beastmen armies. So now I had a strong vassal and was able to defeat the army from Tal Esth. Now the AI at Tal Esth DoW and marched toward Halls of Findol and when I checked diplomacy Fyr Darric was willing to accept peace OR vassalage as the AI at Cromlech of Cadai had DoW them. With my 2nd army also taking heavy casualties Fyr Darric captured Waterfall palace killing my 2nd army but took heavy losses while Durthu had moved back toward them despite not being fully healed and was able to defeat 2 damaged Fyr Darric armies in battle outside of Waterfall Palace. Predictably Fyr Darric then DoW (AI will always DoW when your main army is away on VH/L) so I risked attack before my 2nd army ran back to Waterfall Palace to defend.

That allowed me to defeat the Findol armies and lay siege to Halls of Findol which still had garrison plus 3/4 of an army. In my campaign as Durthu I went south west first to Halls of Findol and had a couple really tough battles where I won but the AI regenerated armies too fast so I retreated a bit and recruited a 2nd Lord which I moved across the river in raid stance then moved Durthu into ambush stance just behind. Picking your first war is the most important decision.

The first 20 turns are hard but not that hard compared to Skarsnik or original Archaon.

Random catastrophes and wilful citizens can net or cost you a win that seemed a given. Generally, Oriental Empires is one of the best games if youвЂ™re looking to be surprised, even if a surprise could turn out frustrating. In a callback to 4XвЂ™s board gaming roots, Oriental Empires uses the WEGO system, where all players resolve their turns simultaneously, offering some welcome suspense. This is best 4X to go with if youвЂ™re looking for a game focusing on Chinese history the way Aggressors does for Ancient Rome, especially with the Three Kingdoms and Genghis DLC.
